10k Race and Protein Shake

Over the weekend I officially signed up to run the Founder’s Day 10k race.

I really wanted to run the Baldwin Park Half Marathon but I know I have the Space Coast Half coming up at the end of the month. This is will be my first time running the 10k distance so I’m pretty excited! :)

In preparation for the 10k I set out this morning to run a faster paces 6.2 miles. I wanted to give myself a goal time to beat on Sunday.

Stats

Miles 6.2

Time 54:09

Average Pace 8:44

Splits

Mile 1 9:14

Mile 2 8:48

Mile 3 8:39

Mile 4 8:52

Mile 5 8:36

Mile 6 8:27

Mile 6.2 7:48

The conditions weren’t the best for running this morning. It was super windy, muggy and I even ran in the rain. I struggled pretty hard throughout the run and really had to push myself to keep the pace I wanted.

In the end I was very happy with the run and can’t wait to see what I can do on Sunday during the race.

After my run I threw together a quick breakfast.

I finally gave in and bought some Greenwise chocolate protein powder. I’ve been wanting to try a protein powder but was afraid of the taste and the price. In the end I know I need the extra cals and protein to fuel all of this running! To make my protein shake I blended 1 scoop of protein powder, almond milk and ice.

The results...a very very tasty chocolate milkshake. :)

I also had half an everything bagel with butter.

Gotta run! I’m late for class! Have a great Monday!

Edited to add: I did end up having a bowl of broc soup last night around 9pm. It was tasty so I’m sure I’ll be having it again soon to do a review on it. :)

Excavating Makes You Dirty

I woke up early this morning to meet up with my pig excavation group. We met at 7am which meant I had to wake up 6:20am. It’s much more fun to wake up early when you have a great run ahead of you.

For a quick breakfast I made oatmeal with pumpkin spice, peanut butter and apples. I normally use 1/2 a cup but this morning I upped my serving to 3/4 cup for some extra fuel.

Once my group met up we set up our supplies for excavating.

DSCN9502.JPG

DSCN9505.JPG

We set up a 3 meter by 4 meter grid and got to work.

DSCN9524.JPG

We sifted all of the sand that came out of the two units we excavated.

DSCN9534.JPG

Not too long into digging and I was already hungry. I had this snack mix of knock off gold fish, peanuts and raisins.

DSCN9539.JPG

DSCN9556.JPG

I also had the other half of my apple from breakfast.

DSCN9557.JPG

Not too long into excavating and we had two policeman come ask us what we were up to. There were a couple people who walked by in the morning and we think they notified the authorities that there was some suspicious digging going on. The policemen were nice and curious. It’s nice to know that if there was something funky going on the police would come to check it out.

DSCN9553.JPG

For lunch I had 3/4 of this apple butter and almond butter sammie. This is how you eat lunch when your hands are filthy from digging in the dirt. You squeeze the sandwich out of the bag.

DSCN9564.JPG

And this grapefruit that I picked from my parent’s backyard yesterday. Dad it tasted great! Not sour at all. :)

DSCN9572.JPG

Not before long we realized that there definitely was not a pig in our unit at all! We did find two full anatomical teaching specimens. **These are Fake Plastic, Not Real teaching specimens.**

DSCN9573.JPG

It was actually quite a lot of work to excavate both specimens. We were dirty and tired by the time we were done!

DSCN9592.JPG

Once we were done we had to backfill in the dirt for future forensic archaeology students. We thought we’d make it an interesting excavation for them. ;)

DSCN9600.JPG

I really do love excavating. It’s just so much fun to be an adult and still have fun playing in the dirt outside.

DSCN9578.JPG

Once I got home I was ravenous from all of that digging!! I ate my leftover pizza from Friday night plus a cookie from last night.

DSCN9601.JPG

I ate the pizza at 4:45pm so I’m not sure how hungry I am for more food? I might have a bowl of soup or something else light.

Have a great night! I hope you enjoyed all the excavating pics! :)

Doggie Playdate

Oliver has been in desperate need for a doggie play date. Spending the day with his two favorite doggie friends, Scooby and Maddie, was exactly what he needed.

When we first arrived at my parent’s house I high tailed it to their back yard to steal some almost ripe grapefruit.

DSCN9408.JPG

I can’t wait to dig into one! I think it’s funny to pay 1$ each at the store when I can pick them off my parent’s tree for free. :)

DSCN9411.JPG

Going to my parent’s means lots of temptations, including my worse enemy…dun dun dun…the M&M candy machine. I gave in to the chocolately goodness and had this hand full plus one more

DSCN9406.JPG

Maddie gave Oliver a run for his money today! She pinned him multiple times! I love that they are almost exactly the same age (6 months) but Oliver is about 5 times her size.

DSCN9414.JPG

While the dogs were wrestling my little bro offered to have a taste test for a funky fruit he picked out at the grocery store. I have actually been eyeing these babies down every time I go to the store but have been too chicken to purchase one.

DSCN9417.JPG

The verdict…it tasted like a vegetable disguised as a fruit. Kind of like pumpkin but a little sweeter. I only ate a few nibbles. I didn’t really care for the taste but it was definitely fun to try.

DSCN9421.JPG

For lunch my Dad threw together some home-made chicken salad on an onion roll. I had mine with lettuce, squash and carrots on the side.

DSCN9425.JPG

Today was the most beautiful day Florida has seen in quite a while. The temps were low and there was a breeze in the air. We took advantage of the nice day and headed out to the local park.

DSCN9426.JPG

DSCN9433.JPG

Oliver showed off his tennis ball retrieving skills. Scooby and Maddie were totally jealous.

DSCN9430.JPG

DSCN9436.JPG

Scooby is the old man of the group (7 years old). He’s much more relaxed and laid back than the young pups.

DSCN9437.JPG

I have about 4 or 5 photos that I have taken of me holding Oliver, from 8 weeks until now. It was about time that I added to the collection. He’s 45 lbs now and there’s a big debate about how much bigger he’s going to get. I’m betting that he’ll be 50 lbs. Does anyone know how much more dogs grow once they hit 6 months old?

DSCN9438.JPG

While we were at the park we noticed that there was a car show going on so we decided to take a stroll through it. I was very proud of Oliver. He was happy and friendly. I’ve determined that he only barks at other people in my apartment complex. Maybe it is a territory thing?

DSCN9446.JPG

Even though I know nothing about cars I can appreciate the classics.

DSCN9447.JPGDSCN9443.JPG

Once we got home I snacked on a bowl of pomegranate that little bro Ben opened up. I think he was feeling adventurous at the grocery store today. :) Go Ben! I also had a roll.

DSCN9450.JPGDSCN9454.JPG

For dinner my Dad made a pork roast, roasted veggies and acorn squash. My Dad and I had an acorn squash contest. He says that it tastes better cooked with butter and cinnamon and I say that it tastes better on it’s own. It was fun to try both kinds. The cinnamon one tasted like it should have been a pie for dessert and mine tasted more vegetable like. They were both tasty in their own right.

DSCN9477.JPG

After dinner my Dad and I made cookies.

DSCN9482.JPG

We made one of our favorites, Peanut butter cookies. We used this classic recipe.

DSCN9483.JPG

I had 2 cookies plus enough batter to equal another. The batter was deliciously fluffy and the cookies were warm and crunchy.

DSCN9490.JPG

We ended our day switching back and forth between the FSU v Clemson game and the UF v Vanderbilt.

The dogs enjoyed hanging out on the couches. Maddie is super feisty for her size! I think she has little man syndrome.

DSCN9467.JPG

I picture Oliver speaking in an English accent and ordering a spot of tea in this picture.

DSCN9471.JPG

I’ll leave you with a picture of the dogs hanging out with Dad on the loveseat. Scooby loves his Dad and Maddie and Oliver love their grandpa.

DSCN9492.JPG

Thanks Dad for such a fun day. I know Oliver enjoyed his doggie play date.

It’s been a looooong day! I’m going to have another loooong day tomorrow too excavating a pig for my forensic archaeology class. Wish me luck! Hopefully we can get it done in one day!
